Participation of Our President Corinne Lepage in the International Conference “From Paris to Belém: 10 Years of Global Climate Action”
In 2025, the City of Paris celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, adopted during COP21 in 2015, with a major mobilization at City Hall. On this occasion, the international conference “From Paris to Belém: 10 Years of Global Climate Action”, held on June 23, 2025, brought together mayors and elected officials from major cities across five continents to assess the climate actions taken by cities and to reaffirm their commitment to the fight against climate change.
Under the leadership of Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, and in the presence of prominent figures such as Laurent Fabius, President of COP21, Laurence Tubiana, architect of the Paris Agreement, Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, Fatiha El Moudni, Mayor of Rabat, Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, Philippe Close, Mayor of Brussels, Dieudonné Bantsimba, Mayor of Libreville, and Corinne Lepage, President of the Universal Declaration of Humankind Rights, the conference highlighted ten years of innovative urban initiatives. Discussions focused on best practices in decarbonization, climate justice, and the fight against misinformation, in the lead-up to COP30, which will take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025.
In parallel, the free exhibition “From Paris to Belém: 10 Years of Global Climate Action”, open from June 21 to December 13, 2025, at the Salle Saint-Jean in Paris City Hall, illustrates the commitment of cities through an immersive and engaging display. Featuring a monumental artwork by artist Shepard Fairey (Obey), the exhibition offers an interactive journey including photographs by Sebastião Salgado, installations on loan from the Museum of Arts and Crafts, and a chronological timeline of key moments in the global climate movement. Designed for all audiences, including children, the exhibition invites visitors to calculate their carbon footprint and take action for a sustainable future.
Ten key initiatives highlighted:
- Emission reduction: Cities in the C40 network, including Paris, have reduced greenhouse gas emissions, with Paris reaching 2.5 tons of CO₂ per capita in 2018.
- Renewable energy: Transition to low-carbon heating networks, as seen in Paris.
- Sustainable mobility: Development of low-emission transportation, following European initiatives led by Anne Hidalgo.
- Biodiversity protection: Reforestation and ecosystem conservation projects, inspired by collectives such as Argos.
- Climate adaptation: Measures to protect cities from rising sea levels and natural disasters.
- Circular economy: Waste reduction, with a 13% decrease in emissions from waste in Paris since 2004.
- Citizen engagement: Mobilizing populations through interactive tools and educational campaigns.
- Climate justice: Support for vulnerable countries through funding and technology transfers.
- Sustainable urban planning: Urban development projects such as the Olympic Aquatics Center in Saint-Denis.
- Combating misinformation: International cooperation to counter climate denial campaigns.
This conference and the accompanying exhibition underscore the central role of cities in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, while preparing the ground for COP30 in Belém. Paris thus reaffirms its ambition to become a carbon-neutral city by 2050, while inspiring a global climate mobilization.
Corinne Lepage once again emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting that the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Humankind Rights provides both a legal and ethical framework to take action for the protection of humanity and future generations.
